I’ve noticed a trend for a while that’s recently picked up more momentum and it involves organizations dropping their use of EMRs for case management. I believe this trend will continue and I will describe why I’m seeing this and what this means for case management software.
As a social worker, you strive to have a positive effect on the community around you. You serve as motivation to better the lifestyles for each of your clients. Because of the various demands put on social workers, the client relationship can become secondary due to the vast amount of service coordination, communication among providers, documentation and other aspects of this ever-changing field.
Nowhere is the case for electronic case management to be better made than in health and human services. Even in a thriving economy, disadvantaged populations exist and are the most in need. As the economy shrinks in times of crises and unemployment increases, the need for health and human case management services increases. So does the need to document client information and circumstances to ensure clients’ needs are met.
How often do you have to deal with a clunky, outdated software while at work? You know, the systems that barely drag along, where the only thing you can do at times is hope that you will be able to finally get some work done today? This is something that happens all the time in various public sectors. Case management systems are often slow, ineffective, and out-of-date.
Running a successful, busy public health agency can be quite difficult and can lead to some heightened level of stress behind the scenes. There are tons of cogs in the machine that needs to be kept track of, which is compounded by the fact the health and well being of your patient all comes down to you keeping everything moving along smoothly.
